PeteyCan you help Petey win a Contest?
How? Donate to ACR here!

Through to December 20th, every donation made through our Giving Page brings us one step closer to earning a $5000 prize in CanadaHelps.org's Giving Challenge!

Little Petey was born in a feral colony. Luckily for Petey, at just 3 days old, the Annex Cat Rescue rescued him and mom.

Petey wouldn't have survived long outside. Young kittens are very vulnerable to Toronto's cold and chilly winter weather. Petey is now safe indoors in an ACR foster home. He's been to a vet and is ready for adoption! Petey's mom was spayed (so there will be no more homeless cats from her!).

ACR, a volunteer-run, no-kill charity, helps cats like Petey. Alas, there are many, many more stray/feral cats in the GTA that urgently need help! But in order to save lives, WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! Every donation counts!

Please click on the link below to make your donation. Donate DAILY! Even if you can only give just $1 every day, it can help us win! Donate now!

16 November 2009 @ 05:01 pm

The Annex Cat Rescue has joined other non-profits in an effort to earn a grant from the Aviva Community Fund -- but we need your help to make this happen!

Please click on the link below to register (all you need is an email address) and cast a vote for our TNR (trap-neuter/spay-return) program. Vote DAILY!

It was a routine night for the Annex Cat Rescue volunteer -- feeding the cats at one of ACR's feral colonies -- until she spotted the pet carrier. Outdoors in the cold air of an early spring evening in downtown Toronto, the volunteer rushed to the carrier, knelt down and peered in through the open door. There, huddled at the back of the carrier, was barely a shadow of a cat with sad green eyes, shivering. The ACR volunteer made eye contact with the cat for just a moment, and then before she could act, Maddie ran...

Why, yes I am the cutest thing that ever lived!

Healey

And I have 3 weeks to be adopted before my foster parents go on vacation and I'd have to move to a new foster home. I'm much rather go to a forever home instead!

I know my foster mommy is going to cry a lot either way though as she's fallen for me BIG TIME.

The smallest in a litter of five born in a west-end garage, this all-black kitten has some very good luck. After living outdoors for six weeks, Carbon along with his two sisters (CopyCat and Triplicat) and two brothers (Xerox and Toner), were rescued by some good samaritians and turned over to Annex Cat Rescue.

Carbon is a sleek all-black boy with big grey eyes and a comical kink at the very tip of his tail. He's a lovebug who delights in being held and cuddled. He greets his foster mum at the door, shows his love with affectionate head-butts, and adores having his belly rubbed. He also has a wild streak, and has great fun playing chase-and-tackle with the resident cats.

Emily is a special little girl. Beautiful and full of playful energy and very unique.

You see, she has the cutest little kinked tail, in the shape of a Z.

Emily needs a forever home where she will be loved completely - not despite her tail, but because of it.

"Pure Black Elegance"

Name: Portia
Approximate age: 10 years
Hello Dahlings. Something very disturbing happened to me this year. Somehow my home got misplaced and I was in utter shock. I'm not sure what happened but I suspect it was my desire for a little fresh air (ok maybe I wandered off too far -- I really don't know what I got myself into). I found myself in Queensville area of Toronto in confusion. The next thing I know, I'm feeling a bit peckish and people are ignoring me! How could that be? Finally, after chasing many people, a nice gentleman rescued me.

Well, on to the good stuff, I am Portia, Lady of the Manor. I have been attended to by servants for ten years. I'm very good at hiding my age and trick people into thinking I am a spring kitten. Haha silly fools!

Once I started gaining weight, I started my reign in a new kingdom. To my horror, a few days after I got here, the tips of my ears perished from frostbite. How could a black beauty like myself go through something so awful?! Fortunately my servants have lavished me with love and really see how lucky they are to be under my reign. I am beautiful there's no doubt -- how could I not be? I am made of precious materials -- my coat is silk and shines of diamonds while my eyes are gorgeous emeralds.

As my subjects realize that I am not interested in juvenile games or kitten-talk, they give me the respect I deserve. In return, I indulge them by sitting on their laps and purring for hours. However, I prefer to be "up high" on the back of a throne -- laying behind or across their shoulders -- where I can see my kingdom before me.

Portia requires a kingdom with an older pauper-cat or even as the only royal subject in the home. No jester-kittens please!!

Em... the sweetest cat ever. He wants nothing more than to sit snuggled next to you or ON you, and purr while you rub his belly.

Mango and Tango, the foster kittens that we've cared for over the last three months, have been adopted. It's bittersweet. We went through so much with these kittens (conjunctivitis, upper respiratory infections, seizures), we loved them for three months, and now they've been adopted! They have a home. We'll certainly miss them.
